Sarah Hunker, a member of the Bellevue FFA, competed in the FFA State Public Speaking Contest amongst 19 other FFA members on Saturday, March 9th hosted at Tolls Career and Technical Center.  After presenting her speech in the preliminary competition at 9:15 a.m., she waited with much anticipation to see if she would move into the finals.  “The hardest part is the waiting”, Hunker said.  At 12:30 p.m., the preliminary results were announced, where Sarah learned that she would advance to the final round later that afternoon.  Through random draw, Sarah was to present first out of the remaining four contests.  With the final round approaching, nervousness began to set in and the exhaustion of the entire day was beginning to take its toll.  “It was much harder to present to a new set of judges during the finals”, Sarah expressed.  Sarah’s 4th place finish was announced by the panel of judges at 3:00 p.m.  When asked what she was going to focus her time on now, Sarah replied, “I’m looking forward focusing on our livestock judging competitions for the rest of the year and I will begin tweaking my speech for next year’s contest.”
