Miss B's Everyday Math Page
The 6th Grade math curriculum is totally aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards for 6th Graders. It builds upon the skills the students have been acquiring since Kindergarten in the Everyday Math program, and adds some more in-depth concepts in algebra, geometry and problem-solving skills. In 6th Grade, we not only emphasize the math concepts, but also help the students express their reasons for solving problems in specific ways.

The students will be working out of Math Journals (workbooks) most of the time, but they DO have hardcover Student Reference Books that they ARE encouraged to bring home. The mini "SRB" icons that you find on homework assignments will tell you where to look for help--and even some practice problems--in your child's Student Reference Book!

What's Going On in 6B Math?
We have just begun "Unit 4: Rational Number Uses and Operations." In this unit, the students will spend a lot of time working with the "most dreaded concept in Math" ... FRACTIONS!! We will be comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, as well as converting them into decimals, percents, and mixed numbers. The students are always a little timid going into it, but I know that when we are finished they are going to be "Fraction Fanatics"!

In addition to the day-to-day lessons, we are going to be preparing for the Ohio Achievement Test. The students have been given a username (LastnameFirstname.York.Bellevue) and a password (their lunch ID#) for Study Island, and I encourage them to use this at home, as well as school.

All students need to continue to practice their basic multiplication and division facts to stay quick with the new skills they are learning. Links to Study Island and some other fun, interactive Math sites are located below! Check 'em out!!
