All About Miss Baltzell ...
My Position:
This is my seventh year at York School. I am currently teaching Science (Physical, Life, and Earth) and Social Studies (Geography and World Civilizations) to three sections of 6th graders; over the last four years I have also taught Health, Math ... and even Spelling. Before teaching Sixth Grade, I worked with students in the special education resource room in grades 1 through 5. My favorite thing to teach is Math ... but Science and Health definitely lead to the most interesting discussions and activities!

Some day I would like to be a school counselor at the middle school level, but ... not just yet. I love my 6th graders, and the incredible team that I work with at York School!

My Degrees/Certifications:
**Elementary Education - Ohio University
**Bachelor of Science in Education with certification in both Elementary and Severe Behavioral Handicap Education - Bowling Green State University
**Master of Arts in Counseling with School Counseling Licensure - Heidelberg College

Why I Became a Teacher ...
While I was growing up, I moved around the country a lot. I went to 8 schools in 5 states in 9 years! In addition to having very loving and supportive parents, I also had some outstanding teachers! They were not only there to teach me all kinds of new and interesting things, but they also made me feel welcome and comfortable through those transitions. I want to be that kind of teacher to the kids I work with. I'm a crafty, creative person, I love to be around kids, and ... I like to be in charge! I guess that makes teaching the perfect career for me.
When I'm Not at School ...
I'm not married, I don't have any kids of my own, and I am an only child so I have lots of time to do just about anything I want ...

I like to spend time with my friends and family, my TiVo, my computer, or a great book. I enjoy taking lots of pictures and working on scrapbooks. I play volleyball every week; I also love playing cards, board games ... and pranks on my friends!

Most of all, I LOVE to travel. Click on the link to the right to learn more about my exciting (and educational) trip to Wyoming during the summer.
