In 6th grade, we have a lot of topics to cover in Social Studies ... in a little bit of time. We begin the year with geography skills. We cover the five themes of geography: place, location, regions, movement, and human-environment interaction. We explore physical and human geography, in addition to world cultures and natural resources. Most of the things we go over are a review of things the students have already learned in grades 1-5, and by December we are READY to move on to the "real" Social Studies book. |

In Social Studies this year, the 6th graders will get to learn about people all over the world--from the Stone Age up to present day. The students are often surprised to discover all of the connections between innovations of the past and our present-day lives. Although we have great advancements in technology, we find that our basic needs haven't changed all that much! |
