Welcome to the Second Grade! The 2nd graders at Ellis pledge to do their best every day. Their goals include working hard at learning new skills and mastering old ones. They are always using respect and good manners when they are working with other students and adults. Second graders are the best! READING - Most of our concentration in 2nd grade is with reading skills. We read and write daily. We work on vocabulary and comprehension skills. The student's accelerated reading book (AR) should go back and forth daily with them. Remember the more the students read the better reader they will become. MATH - It is important that addition anbd subtraction facts are mastered in the 2nd grade. HOMEWORK - The students will have homework every school except Fridays. These assignments should take around 20 minutes. This work needs to be returned the following day. Ellis School is still my special place. After 33 years of working with this age group I still feel much joy and satisfaction each day.
