Mr. Hicks Welcome to my little space on the information highway. I look forward to working with your child in my class. I hope that your child will find my class to be a challenging, fun, and rewarding experience. During the school year, your child will participate in many different types of activities designed to demonstrate science concepts, the hands-on learning experiences, and often thought provoking activities. My goal for your child is that he/she will do his or her best in each and every activity. |

 7th Grade Textbook |
Click for 7th Grade Science Assignments Seventh Grade Science is a Life Science course in which students will investigate a variety of topics. We begin the year with a short study of lab safety procedures and experimental design. We then proceed to cell structures, cell functions, and cell reproduction(mitosis and meiosis). This is followed by a study of DNA and its structure. We then relate cell reproduction and DNA to it's role in inheritance, natural selection, and evolution. During the second semester, we will be studying ecology, environments, and the biomes of the Earth. Vocabulary is an essential part of understanding much of the information taught in this class. Please help your child to prepare for my class by studying the vocab. flashcards. |

Through the course of the year, students will study the features of Earth and it's similarities to other objects in the solar system. We begin the year by studying lab safety, safety procedures, parts of an experiment, and experimental design. We then take a look at plate motions, continental drift, earth materials, and the rock cycle. We then begin a study of force, motion, and Newton's laws which are found in the 8th grade state standards. During the second semester, will will focus on astronomy, our restless earth(earthquakes, volcanos, mountain building, glaciers, etc.), and meteorology. |
