Welcome to Family and Consumer Science with Mrs. Hill
Finding My Way
Semester Class for all 7th graders:
What is the biggest challenge for your teenager? Is it peer pressure, making decisions, fitting in, school, parents, siblings, friends, relating to others, emotions, or all of the above? This course focuses on the concerns, hopes, dreams and goals of young people - it's about the student. Students will discuss the changes they are experiencing, learn how to strentgthen their self-confidence, manage their emotions, and communicate better with friends and family. The class also gives students a chance to explore careers as they relate to their interests. A career project and a service project are incorporated into this class. The four content/course areas included in this class are creating a self-identity, becoming independent, relating to others, and managing resources.
Creative Living
Elective Semester class for 8th grader:
Would you like to learn how to put daily living skills to creative use? Are you a skillful shopper? Do you like working with children? Do you like to prepare foods in the kitchen? Are you concerned about nutrition? Are you curious about the use of a sewing machine?
This introductory course gives students a chance to use management skills, consumer skills and individual creativity as they explore the areas of child care, food preparation, meal planning, sewing and consumer purchasing. Students are given the opportunity and choice to experience the "Baby Think It Over" program as a part of the child care unit.
