Parents: Welcome to the Second Grade Web Page
I am very happy to be your child's second grade teacher. We will be working on different skills that have to be practiced. Therefore, the second graders will have homework on a daily basis. The homework is an enhancement to what is being taught in the classroom.
Please spend time every night reading or listening to your child read an Accelerated Reader book. Please work with your child on his/her homework. Remember these are skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
Your child has a folder, which is their responisbility to have with them every day. Inside the folder is a sheet to keep communication open between you and I regarding any concerns or comments you have. Please check the work your child has completed and is ready for you to look at and keep.
If you have any questions about what we are doing, please feel free to give me a call and we will discuss the questions you have. Thank you for your help in developing the skills your child needs to become a successful second grader.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Oddo

Ohio Achievement Test
Reading well is a key to success in school, on state and national tests, and in life in general. Students need to be able to read fluently and with expression.
I invite you to help me help your child become a better reader. Each Monday your child will have a short reading homework assignment that asks you to listen to him or her read OUT LOUD and answer a few easy questions. Each reading assignment is specifically created to reinforce a reading standard, or benchmark, that has been taught in class.
You will have all week to complete the assignment and your child will get credit for doing the work. Just sign at the top of the page, indicating that you did, indeed, listen to your child read out loud and help him or her with the questions. The OAT packets are due on or before each Friday. These will prepare your child for the third grade test.
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this project.
Accelerated Readers are Achievers
Accelerated Reader is a reading program designed to get your child interested in and find a love for books and reading. Students are to read the AR book to and or with someone at home. Please ask your child questions pertaining to the story. Students will earn classroom parties and individual prizes based on the number of points earned for tests passed. What a fun incentive for reading!!
Thanks so much for your support at home!
