BEGINNING WOODWORKING |
| Course instruction is through teacher and textbook demonstration. Teacher selected projects and student selected projects are constructed depending upon the students' interest and abilities. Projects progress from simple layout, to box construction, to furniture and cabinetry. Hand tools, portable power tools and machines such as sawing, planing, and turning equipment will be used. Safety, design, construction, workmanship, student growth, improvement, and subject knowledge are stressed and evaluated. |
WOOD DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY |
| This course is designed to give students the necessary training to increase and refine their woodworking skills. Course content consists of instruction in the safe application and proper use of woodworking tools and machines; plus an in-depth study of the woodworking industry. Fundamentals of good design, skills, and knowledge will be implemented by construction of larger and more complex projects. Students must have completed the Beginning Woodworking course and have demonstrated by their projects that they have the necessary skills and talent to advance to this class. |
HANDICRAFTS |
| This is an introductory woodworking class offered primarily for students with an interest in arts and crafts. Students will develop an understanding of basic woodworking tools, safety, and construction of simple wooden projects. Jig saw projects with a stained or painted finish will be the primary focus. |
