Accelerated American History

Accelerated American History is an Oberlin College freshman course taught at Bellevue High School. The classroom environment and expectations mirror a college class as closely as possible. This history course develops the student’s ability to think analytically, read critically, and write effectively. Students complete extensive reading assignments, write short and long essays, hold discussions, present and defend positions, and challenge the points of view of their classmates. During the second semester each student completes a major research paper using primary and secondary sources. Proper documentation and an extensive bibliography are required for the research paper.

American History

This is a survey course on the development of the United States from the Civil War/Reconstruction period through present day. This class provides the students with a broad overview of people, events, and institutions that shaped American history. A part of this course is preparation for the “Citizenship” component of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). Because of the OGT requirements, a review of the period from the American Revolution through the ratification of the Constitution is incorporated into the course.
