Hello, I am Miss Fritz, and I teach composition, reading, and social studies to both sections of sixth grade at Shumaker. In social studies we split our time between studying geography and ancient history. In composition we complete several challenging writing assignments every month. These assignments include: book reports, informational reports on ancient Egyptian culture, research papers on inventors, persuasive essays, business letters, writing and performing speeches, crafting poetry, and the list continues. We read at least one story a week from our reading books and complete several activities to accompany the story. We also read several chapter books throughout the year. Several of the books that we read are: "Maniac Magee", "Shiloh", "Number the Stars", and "Strider". I find that even the students that do not like to read, enjoy reading these books in class, because I have many fun activities that accompany the books. |
